Clay Cats – Laurel Burch Style

November 3, 2010

Our students couldn’t get enough of artist Laurel Burch and her use of gorgeous color.  Kids sketched a cat body or head on a piece of 4″ x 6″ paper.  Once they were pleased with the outline, they cut it out to use as a pattern.  They rolled out white clay, laid their pattern on top and cut it out.  They used a straw to poke a hole in the top.    Once the clay cats were fired to bisque, students used a palette full of beautiful colors to paint their cats.  The kids can’t wait to take their cats home.  Some said their cats will hang on their Christmas trees this year.

Cute idea to do the cats out of clay. Never would have thought of that. Thanks for sharing!
