Mondrian Hearts

January 15, 2011

I recently introduced kindergarten, first and third graders to the artist Piet Mondrian.  These examples were created by my youngest students and then I cut out their pictures into the shape of a heart to coincide with Valentine’s Day.  To help them remember this artist, we sang a song with the following lyrics. Mondrian, Mondrian, Mondrian, Mondrian; He painted three colors, red, yellow, blue; They’re called primary and they’re really really cool, Mondrian. Older kids sketched the outline of different shapes on the back of their Mondrian pictures and then cut them out and glued them onto construction paper.  We had rabbits, dogs, cars, etc., all in the style of Mondrian….very cute.
