Flower Bouquet

January 19, 2011

Third graders painted these fantastic flower bouquets.  I told them this picture would be the perfect gift for someone on Valentine’s Day….but first, let Mrs. Auvermann display them for a short while!  We started with a 9″ x 12″ sheet of white construction paper.  They chose a 4″ x 9″ strip from a box of precut strips in varied colors and glued it down to the bottom of their paper.  This served as their table top.  To make a vase, they picked a 6″ square piece of construction paper, folded it like a book, drew their vase design and cut it out.  After gluing it down to their paper, they used a black crayon to draw flower shapes near the top of their papers, adding stems and leaves.  I gave them a colorful plate full of tempera paint and they began, with the goal of filling up their white space, adding as much color as they could and finishing it off with a shadow under the vase…..such sweet artwork.
