Raising Money for Wildfire Victims

March 19, 2011

Amarillo recently made national news with an outbreak of wildfires that destroyed over 60 homes and destroyed many families belongings.  Thankfully, no one died in this tragedy but many pups perished at Willow Creek Kennel.  Through the next week, students came to class and shared about family and friends who had lost everything.  Those conversations led to “What can we do?” We’ve started a change fund, collecting pennies, nickels, quarters and dimes….5th graders are donating money for the opportunity to make these bubble hearts out of clay.  Currently, we have over 100 hearts drying, waiting to be fired in the kiln.  I’ll post more pictures when the project is complete.  With Mother’s Day and Father’s Day approaching, these hearts will be a great surprise.
