Frogs and Dragonflies

April 2, 2011

Younger students enjoyed reading Denise Fleming’s book In the Small, Small Pond. The illustrations are bright and beautiful and set the scene for the kids to create a pond scene of their own.  Using blue construction paper, kids added water highlights with blue and white oil pastels.  They drew in all sizes of frogs, with large eyes and long red tongues.  They drew in grasses, cattails and lily pads.  Our final touch was to paint dragonflies and flowers…some students added a splash of color to their lily pads with tissue paper for the little flowers.

These turned out very cute! I like how you had your students add contrast with the green section.
