Georgia O’Keeffe Flowers

April 5, 2011

Second graders completed these amazing flowers in two sessions.  Before we began, students looked at examples of O’Keeffe’s art.  They loved all the bright bold colors she used in her flower designs.  On day one, students chose their paper color, sketched large petals and cut them out.  They added highlights using oil pastels.  They glued them onto their 12″ x 18″ paper.  Next they cut strips of another bright color and glued them down around the center section.  Kids used tissue paper to fill the center of the flowers.  On day two, they cut leaves out of green butcher paper, added oil pastel highlights and glued them down.  I think we need to save these for Mother’s Day!
