Flower Template Rubbings

May 7, 2011

After reading Eric Carle’s book, The Tiny Seed, students created a special Mother’s Day flower picture using crayons, watercolor paint and flower rubbing templates.  Use masking tape to secure template to table.  I precut white construction paper the exact size of the template.  Place on top of template and secure with tape to the top and bottom.  Students chose a favorite crayon color, peeled it, turned it on its side and rubbed on top of paper, making sure to press hard and to cover entire area.  I let them complete 4-5 rubbings and then they selected their best two.  Glue them to construction paper and add splashes of color with watercolor paint.  You could also use crayon or marker.
