Clay Pumpkins

October 1, 2011

Fifth graders had a great time forming these clay pumpkins.  I mainly heard one complaint…..”Can we make a REALLY big pumpkin?”  They wanted more clay but since all kids at our school  get an opportunity to experience clay, my answer was, “No, let’s be thankful for what we get.”  A local art class was offering a class on a similar project so I brought this idea to the classroom.  We made two pinch pots and attached them together.  Kids scored the clay and added stems and leaves.  Some chose to add faces and others didn’t.  Stay tuned to see the final painted product.
