Chinese New Year

January 18, 2012

Art students enjoyed learning about the Chinese New Year.  We compared how Americans and Chinese celebrate the new year.  Kids especially liked to discover that Chinese parents give their children a red envelope filled with money to ring in the new year.  I showed them lots of colorful photos of lanterns and the famous dragon dance.  Third graders sketched lanterns in various sizes and attempted to write their name in Chinese while second grade classes worked in groups to create dragons.
