Chalk Pastel Fish

February 23, 2012

Fifth graders will travel to Galveston, Texas in May for a very special three day field trip.  We’ve begun to create art projects that get us excited about this journey.  We looked at various pictures of fish from the gulf waters around Galveston.  Students used them as a guide as they sketched fish onto black paper.  They added fins, a tail and designs over the body.  Next, they outlined the fish with glue and let it set overnight.  In session two, students covered their desks with newspaper and experimented blending with chalk pastels……very messy but so bright and beautiful.
